Mr Unforgettable didn’t gain a start in last year’s Stradbroke Handicap but victory in Saturday’s Rowley Mile could take him a step closer to this year’s Queensland feature.

The Kevin Moses-trained gelding will contest the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury’s stand-alone Saturday meeting and the trainer is hoping for the track to remain wet.

Mr Unforgettable is a noted wet-track specialist and showed his capabilities on rain-affected surfaces in his last-start win on Doncaster day at Randwick when he ploughed through the heavy going to win a Benchmark 95 (1400m).

Moses said plans for the six-year-old would become clearer after the Rowley Mile in which Hugh Bowman has been booked to ride.

“If he runs well enough I might even think about the Scone Cup next, or I might take him to Brisbane,” Moses said.

“I’ll just wait and see how he runs on Saturday.”

Mr Unforgettable was the fourth emergency for last year’s $1 million Stradbroke (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

“I had something on him in the early market for the Stradbroke last year but he never got a run,” Moses said.

“I think he might be a chance in one of those races if it’s wet. But we’ll see how he goes on Saturday first.”

Moses knew Mr Unforgettable would revel in the heavy conditions at Randwick on April 9 but was concerned the gelding might have been a little underdone for the 1400m race second-up on a bog track.

“The only reason he got through it and won was because Jim (Cassidy) gave him a perfect ride,” Moses said.

“He just sat behind a couple of them and waited as long as he possibly could before letting him go. It was a very good ride.”

Cassidy is headed to Brisbane on Saturday, paving the way for Bowman to take over on the gelding.

“He’s very well at the moment, I couldn’t be any happier with him,” the trainer said.

“He gets through the wet as well as he gets through dry ground.”
